In my true size, my heel moves around much more than I’d like, but going down half a size makes the shoe feel far more connected to my foot.

One thing I’ve learned after trying all four is that heel lockdown isn’t just about the heel itself.

It’s also affected by the toe box, the midfoot, and the overall shape of the shoe. The more securely the rest of the shoe wraps around your foot, the less likely your heel is to lift while walking, which is exactly why the Samba feels so planted, while the Campus feels much more relaxed despite both being Adidas classics.

Which Shoe Should You Buy Based on Your Foot Shape?

At this point, you might be wondering which of these four Adidas classics is actually the best choice for your feet.

The good news is that none of them fit poorly.

The key is choosing the one that matches your foot shape and the type of fit you prefer.

Narrow Feet

If you have narrow feet, I’d point you straight toward the Adidas Samba.

Its slim toe box, snug midfoot, and excellent heel lockdown make it feel almost like it was designed for narrower feet. You won’t have to deal with extra space around your foot, and the shoe feels secure with very little movement.

My second choice would be the Spezial. It still has a fairly structured fit but gives you a little more breathing room than the Samba.

Normal Feet

If your feet are average in width, you really can’t go wrong with any of these four models.

Personally, I’d still recommend sizing:

The Spezial also works well for slightly wide feet, although it feels a little more structured through the arch and midfoot than the Gazelle.

The Samba is the one I’d be most careful with. Unless you like a very snug fit, you’ll probably want to go up half a size.

If you have genuinely wide feet, here’s how I’d rank them:

The Gazelle is only slightly behind. It still provides plenty of room while feeling a little more streamlined than the Campus.

The Spezial can absolutely work for wide feet, but I’d recommend staying true to size. Going down half a size may leave the arch and midfoot feeling tighter than you’d like.

Finally, there’s the Samba.

It’s by far the least forgiving of the four. Even with a half-size-up fit, it still feels noticeably narrower than the other models. If you have wide feet and comfort is your priority, I’d start with one of the other three instead.

The Campus is easily the chunkiest-looking sneaker here.

The toe box is taller, the sole appears thicker, and the shoe has noticeably more volume throughout. Even after sizing down half a size, it still looks larger on foot than the other three models.

That’s not necessarily a bad thing.

If you like a fuller, more substantial silhouette, the Campus delivers exactly that.

Adidas Spezial

The Spezial sits right between the Gazelle and the Samba.

It has a slightly longer, more elongated shape than the Gazelle, but it doesn’t feel as slim or tapered as the Samba. At the same time, it avoids the chunky appearance of the Campus.

To me, the Spezial has one of the cleanest proportions in the Adidas Originals lineup. It looks streamlined without appearing narrow and offers a classic profile that works with almost anything.

If I ranked them purely by how large they appear on foot, this would be my order:

Interestingly, that’s almost the same order as how they fit.
