- Select the sizing system you want to convert to.

Why Shoe Size Conversions Aren’t Always Exact
Shoe size conversions aren’t completely standardized across brands. A US 9, for example, won’t always convert to the same European size on every manufacturer’s chart.
In fact, our study found that size conversions can vary between brands, even when the brands use the same sizing system.
Use this calculator as a general conversion guide. If you already know which brand you’re buying, check its official size chart before ordering.
Men’s, Women’s, and Kids’ Shoe Sizes Are Different
Always choose the correct category before converting your size. The same US size number can represent a different shoe length depending on whether you’re looking at men’s, women’s, or kids’ sizing.
For children, the calculator separates Infants, Toddlers, Little Kids, and Big Kids because the sizing sequence changes as kids move through these size ranges.
Don’t Know Your Shoe Size?
If you’re not sure which size to enter, start by measuring your feet. You can do it at home with a sheet of paper, a pencil, and a ruler or measuring tape.

- Put on the socks you usually wear with your shoes.
- Place the paper on a hard floor and stand on it with your full weight on your foot.
- Mark the back of your heel and the tip of your longest toe.
- Measure the distance between the two marks in centimeters or inches.
- Measure both feet and use the longer measurement when checking your size.
- Measure at the end of the day when your feet are at their largest.
For more accurate instructions, including when to measure and how to measure your foot width, see my full guide on how to measure your feet at home.
If your shoes tend to fit well lengthwise but feel tight around the sides of your forefoot, width may be the problem instead. Here’s how to tell if you have wide feet.

Shoe Size Conversion FAQs
Are US and Canadian shoe sizes the same?
Yes, US and Canadian shoe sizes generally use the same sizing system. A US men’s 9, for example, is typically also a Canadian men’s 9.
Are men’s and women’s shoe sizes the same?
No. Men’s and women’s US shoe sizes use different sizing scales, so the same number doesn’t represent the same foot length. Make sure you select the correct category before converting your size.
What is the difference between US and UK shoe sizes?
US and UK shoe sizes use different numbering systems. You may see quick conversion rules online, such as adding 33 or 31 to a US size to estimate another sizing system, but these shortcuts aren’t reliable across men’s, women’s, and kids’ sizes. For a more accurate general conversion, use the calculator above rather than relying on a fixed formula.
Are European shoe sizes the same for men and women?
European sizing is generally unisex in its numbering, but brands may still publish different men’s and women’s size charts. Check the specific brand’s chart when you’re buying a particular shoe.
How do I convert centimeters to shoe size?
Select Centimeters under “Convert from,” choose your foot length, and then select US & Canada, UK, or Europe under “Convert to.” The calculator will show the corresponding general shoe size.
Should I use my foot length in cm or inches to find my shoe size?
Either can work, but centimeters usually give you a more precise measurement. Measure from the back of your heel to the end of your longest toe, then compare that measurement with the appropriate size chart.
Why does my shoe size change between brands?
Brands don’t all use exactly the same lasts, fit standards, or size conversions. You might therefore wear one size in one brand and a different size in another, even when both shoes are labeled using the same sizing system.
What should I do if I’m between two shoe sizes?
Check the brand’s own size chart first. Also consider your foot width and how that particular shoe fits. Going up half a size isn’t automatically the best solution if the real issue is width.
Can a man wear women’s shoes?
Yes. The main thing is finding the equivalent size and making sure the width works for your foot. Men’s and women’s shoes can also differ in width and overall fit, so converting the size number alone doesn’t guarantee the same fit.
Are Australian shoe sizes the same as US or UK?
It depends on the brand and whether you’re shopping for men’s or women’s shoes. Australian sizing often follows UK sizing for men, while women’s sizing may be closer to US sizing. Check the brand’s own size chart rather than assuming an AU size is always identical to a US or UK size.

How can I convert men’s US shoe sizes to women’s?
A common starting point is to add about 1.5 sizes. For example, a men’s US 8 would generally correspond to a women’s US 9.5.
Keep in mind that width can also change. Men’s standard-width shoes are generally wider than women’s standard-width shoes, so the equivalent numerical size may not feel identical.
How can I convert women’s US shoe sizes to men’s?
A common starting point is to subtract about 1.5 sizes. For example, a women’s US 9.5 would generally correspond to a men’s US 8.
This is a general conversion rather than a universal rule. Brand sizing and shoe width can affect the fit, so check the manufacturer’s size chart when possible.
