Over the last three years, Asics has quietly taken over. What used to be a brand people associated with running stores and gym bags is now everywhere.
Models like the Kayano 14, GEL-NYC, and Gel 1130 don’t just release anymore, they sell out. Fast.
The GT-2160 has the same retro runner energy, the same all-day comfort, but with a fit that feels a little more dialed in.
And that’s where the questions start. Does it fit true to size? Is it narrow? What if your feet are wide? And do the collabs fit the same?
That’s exactly what this article covers. I break down the Asics GT 2160 sizing for narrow feet, regular feet, slightly wide feet, and wide feet.
I also go through how the different collaborations fit, because not all GT-2160s feel exactly the same on foot.
One collab in particular has been getting a lot of mixed feedback, and if you’ve seen people debating the JJJJound pair online, yeah… we’re definitely talking about that.
Oh, and if you’re also looking at other Asics lifestyle runners, I’ve got a full Asics GEL-NYC sizing guide as well. It’s a helpful one to read if you’re comparing fits between models before buying.
Asics Gel 2160 Sizing Guide

I’ll cut straight to it. For most people, the Gel 2160 fits true to size.
My foot measures as a true size 9 on the Brannock device, and it’s slightly on the wider side. I went with a size 9 in the Gel 2160, and the fit felt right.
The fit was slightly snug at first, but comfortable and secure. No pressure points, no pinching, and no awkward heel movement.
If your feet are narrow, normal, or slightly wide, true to size should work just fine. The shoe has enough structure to hold your foot in place, but it doesn’t feel overly tight once you give it a little wear time.
Now, if you like a roomier toe box, or you have very wide feet, going up half a size can make sense. The Gel 2160 leans more toward a snug, one-to-one fit than a relaxed one, especially compared to some other Asics models.
How the Fit Feels at First (and After Break-In)
When you first put the Gel 2160 on, it can feel a little short lengthwise. I noticed there was just under an index finger’s width of space at the toe when I tried them on brand new.
At first, that made me pause.
But after wearing them for a few hours over a few days, the shoe settled in. The collar molded to my foot, my heel sat a bit further back, and suddenly the length felt spot on. That initial “short” feeling disappeared completely.
So if you try them on and think, “These feel a bit snug up front,” give them some time.
Toe Box and Width Notes
From a top-down view, the Gel 2160 actually flares out a bit on the lateral side. That’s why, even with slightly wide feet, I didn’t feel any pinching near the little toe.
That said, this is not a wide, airy toe box like the Gel 1130. The Gel 2160 feels more contained. Secure, but not sloppy.
If your foot is very wide, going half a size up will give you extra breathing room without completely throwing off the fit.
Who Should Size Up?
You might want to consider half a size up if:
- Your feet are very wide
- You sit right between sizes
- You hate snug, locked-in fits
- You want extra toe space from day one
If you’re fine with a snug but comfortable fit and don’t mind a short break-in period, true to size works well.
Asics Gel 2160 vs Other Asics Models (Fit Comparison)
If you already own other Asics sneakers, this part will help a lot.
Gel 2160 vs Gel Kayano 14
The fit is very similar overall. Both feel structured and supportive. The Gel 2160 feels slightly snug at first, but once broken in, it lines up well with the Kayano 14. I wear the same size in both.
If you want a deeper breakdown of how the Kayano 14 fits on its own, I put together a full Gel Kayano 14 sizing guide that walks through toe box feel, width, and what size works best for different foot types.
Gel 2160 vs Gel 1130
This is where the difference shows. The Gel 1130 has more volume and feels more forgiving, especially in the toe box. If you’re true to size in the 1130, you’ll likely still be true to size in the 2160, but expect a tighter feel.
I also wear the same size in models like the Gel Lyte 3 and Gel Lyte 5. But compared to recent remastered Gel Lyte 3s, the Gel 2160 actually feels a bit less tight.
Now, if you want a closer look at that roomier fit, I’ve also written a full Asics Gel 1130 sizing guide where I break down exactly how it fits and who it works best for.
Comparison With Other Brands
If you’re jumping between brands, here’s a quick reference.
- New Balance (990 series, 1906, 2002R): True to size works there, and it translates well to the Gel 2160.
- Nike Zoom Vomero 5: Similar length and overall fit. Stick with the same size.
- Nike Dunk: Length-wise, your normal size carries over fine.
Women’s Sizing for the Gel 2160
In women’s sizing, the Gel 2160 runs true to size, but it does feel a bit snug. If you wear thicker socks or like extra wiggle room, half a size up can be more comfortable. If you prefer a secure fit, your regular size should be fine.
Quick Sizing Summary
Here’s the short version if you’re in a hurry:
- Narrow to slightly wide feet: True to size
- Very wide feet: Half size up
- In between sizes: Either can work, depends on how snug you like your shoes
- Break-in matters: Feels better after a few wears
And if Nike is more your lane, I’ve got sizing guides for that side too. I break down how models like the Vapormax fit, what to expect from Air Jordan sizing, and how Air Force 1 really run once you get them on foot.
How the GT-2160 Collabs Fit
If you’re looking at one of the GT-2160 collaborations, the good news is that most of them fit exactly like the regular retail pair.
For collabs like:
- Kith x Asics GT-2160
- Kith x Marvel x Asics GT-2160
- Earls Collection x Asics GT-2160
- Dime x Asics GT-2160
- Wood Wood x Asics GT-2160
- Costs x Asics GT-2160
- Above the Clouds x Asics GT-2160
You can stick with whatever size you normally wear in the GT-2160. If you’re true to size in the standard version, that same size will work here too.
The shape, length, and overall fit feel consistent, and I didn’t notice any meaningful differences in toe space or width compared to the regular release.
JJJJound x Asics GT-2160 Sizing

The JJJJound GT-2160 is the one exception worth talking about.
I bought the JJJJound pair in my normal GT-2160 size, which is a 9. They fit fine, but they do feel a bit more snug than a typical GT-2160.
Nothing painful. Nothing deal-breaking. Just noticeably tighter across the upper.
I suspect it comes down to the materials. The mesh feels thicker and less forgiving, which makes the whole shoe feel more contained.
Lengthwise, it still fits correctly, but the overall volume feels slightly reduced.
Long story short:
All GT-2160 collabs run true to size like the regular pair, except the JJJJound, which feels a touch snugger due to materials.

How to Measure Your Feet for Asics GT-2160
The best option: try them on in store.
If you can find the GT-2160 in person, that’s always the easiest move. Put them on, stand up, and walk around for a few minutes.
Pay attention to toe room, heel hold, and how the midfoot feels when you take a few steps. The GT-2160 usually feels a little snug at first, so focus on whether it feels secure or actually uncomfortable.
If it feels tight but not painful, that’s normal. If your toes feel cramped or you notice pressure along the sides, that’s when a half size up might make more sense.
Get measured with a Brannock device

If the shoe isn’t available to try on, getting measured with a Brannock device is the next best thing.
Here’s how to do it the right way:

- Stand up straight with socks on
- Place your heel all the way back in the cup
- Put your full weight on the foot being measured
- Check your length at the longest toe
- Check your width across the ball of your foot
- Measure both feet and use the larger one
This matters with the GT-2160 because it fits more snug through the midfoot and toe box than models like the Gel 1130. If your width lands on the wider side, that’s a good signal that you may want extra room.
How to measure your feet at home
If there’s no store nearby, you can still get a solid measurement at home.

What you need:
- A piece of paper
- A pen or pencil
- A ruler or tape measure
- The socks you normally wear
Steps:
- Measure at the end of the day when your feet are slightly swollen
- Place the paper on the floor against a wall
- Stand with your heel touching the wall
- Put your full weight on your foot
- Mark the tip of your longest toe
- Measure from the wall to the mark
- Repeat for the other foot and use the larger measurement
Once you have that number, compare it to the Asics GT 2160 size chart.
Here’s how I’d interpret the results:
- True size: Best choice for narrow, normal, or slightly wide feet
- Half size up: Better for very wide feet or if you want extra toe space
- Never size down: The GT-2160 already fits snug at first
One last thing. The GT-2160 often feels better after a few wears. The collar softens, the upper relaxes, and the length feels more natural. So if your true size feels close but not painful, you’re probably in the right size.
If you’re still unsure, trying both sizes from a retailer with easy returns is a smart backup plan.
Asics GT 2160 Sizing FAQ
Is the Asics GT-2160 true to size?
Yes. For most people, the GT-2160 fits true to size. If your feet are narrow, normal, or slightly wide, your usual Asics size should work well. The shoe feels a bit snug at first, but it settles in after a few wears.
Are Asics GT-2160 good for wide feet?
They can work, but it depends on how wide your feet are and how much room you like. Slightly wide feet can usually stay true to size without issues. If your feet are very wide or you hate a snug fit, going up half a size will feel more comfortable.
Are Asics GT-2160 good for narrow feet?
Yes. The GT-2160 actually works really well for narrow feet because of its more structured, secure fit. True to size gives good lockdown without feeling sloppy.
Does 0.5 shoe size make a difference?
It does. Half a size adds a bit of length and a little extra breathing room up front. If your toes feel close to the front or you’re between sizes, that 0.5 can make the fit feel much more relaxed.
What size should I get in Asics 1130 vs GT-2160?
Most people wear the same size in both. That said, the Gel 1130 feels roomier and more forgiving, while the GT-2160 feels more snug and structured. If you’re true to size in the 1130, you’ll likely be true to size in the 2160 as well, just expect a tighter feel.
Should I size up or down in Asics?
Start with your true size. Asics generally run consistent across models. Only size up half a size if you have very wide feet, sit between sizes, or want extra toe room. Sizing down is almost never a good idea.
Final Thoughts
Now that you’ve got everything about the Asics GT 2160 sizing, the 2160 might feel snug or slightly short at first, but once it settles in, the fit makes senses
If you stick with your usual Asics size, you’ll probably be happy. And if you already know you prefer space and comfort over a locked-in feel, half a size up gives you that option.
If you’ve worn the Gel 2160 already, I’m curious.
Did you go true to size or size up? And how did they feel after a full day of wear?
